In association with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Monteith Steen has developed a Property Budget Holders management package for Project Sponsors and departmental heads.

The system which allows the PSNI Estates Services Business Unit to manage the budgets of over 500 projects on some 130 sites, matches their complex budgetary needs to manage 21 cost centres including Minor Works, Major Works, Forward Maintenance projects, micro works and more. Part of the specification was that the system would track project variations and at the same time be able to finance the project in whole or in part from different income streams.

After 14 months of developing the specification, the management system “Project Tracker” was deployed to a limited user group at the beginning of August 2008, and after just one month of side-by-side testing, Project Sponsors are now challenging what they understood to be happening on their projects using the old system now that all the information is in one place.

Departmental managers are delighted to have instant access to live project data giving detailed project positions and overall graphical budget positions.

Now that the system provides live data all the time, there is no rushing around at the end of the month to produce project reports, fighting with other sponsors a the photocopier, or managers having to look at 10 different report formats. All the information for every project is available at the click of a button. This saves all of us hours of work every month.
